The California Consortium for Independent Study is the only professional organization, which supports and promotes the interests of teachers, counselors, paraprofessionals, and administrators working in K-adult independent study.

Dues from members go to support the legislative activities of the group's lobbyists, School Innovations and Advocacy; to pay for printing, publishing, and mailing out the organization's newsletters, legislative calls-to-action, and conference and compliance workshop flyers; to augment costs of the compliance workshops including publishing the compliance workshop manuals; to support the salary of the board's executive secretary; to maintain the CCIS website where members can find up-to-date information continuously available; and to offset unforeseen costs such as additional costs incurred by sponsoring legislation.
